Singer Sonu Nigam has responded strongly after a video of him scolding a student at a concert in Bengaluru went viral. The student had rudely demanded that Sonu sing in Kannada, prompting the singer to compare the incident to the recent hate-fueled terror attack in Pahalgam. This led to an FIR being filed against him.
In a detailed Instagram post, Sonu defended his actions and said he has always respected and celebrated Kannada music and culture. He wrote, “I’ve shown immense love for Kannada language, music, and people — not just in Karnataka but globally. I often prepare more Kannada songs for concerts here than even Hindi songs.”
He added, “I’m not a youngster anymore. At 51, I won’t silently accept humiliation. If someone as young as my son threatens me in front of thousands over language — especially Kannada, which is my second most performed language — I have every right to take offense.”
Sonu also confirmed he will cooperate with the Karnataka Police investigation, but emphasized that he won’t back down when disrespected.
